A figure of speech is used in a language to produce a greater effect on the reader or the listener. When we use it, the ordinary ideas become extra ordinary. As a result, the beauty of the language increases many folds.
In short “a figure of speech is a deviation from the ordinary use of words with a view to increase their effect.” The commonly used figure of speech are :- Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Oxymoron, Onomatopoeia, Hyperbole, Antithesis,Alliteration Assonance, Pun, Anaphora, Imagery, Refrain, Transferred epithet, Enjambement, Repetition and Allusion.
