Ans.  Lencho hoped for good rain as it was much needed for a good harvest.

Ans. Lencho’s crop really needed rain to be a good -harvest. Moreover, by selling the good harvest, he could get new coins. So he said these raindrops were like new coins.

Ans. The rain suddenly changed into a hailstorm. His fields were white as if covered with salt. The corn was totally destroyed.

Ans: Lencho’s soul was filled with sadness. He said that a plague of Locusts would have left more than this. He was worried about his lack of food for the coming year.

Ans.  Lencho had deep faith in God. He felt that God’s eyes saw everything. So he wrote a letter to God to send one hundred pesos to sow his field again and live until the crop comes.

Ans. The postmaster read the letter when a postman brought it to him.

Ans: The postmaster decided to keep Lencho’s faith in God intact. He collected about seventy pesos and sent the money to Lencho.

Ans: No, Lencho was not surprised to find a letter for him with money in it. It was because he had full faith in God and he was sure of it.

Q.9 What made Lencho angry after opening the letter?

Ans. Lencho requested God to send him 100 pesos. But God sent him only 70 pesos. He thought that God could not have made a mistake. The post office employees might have taken away the rest. (remaining amount) This made him angry.

Ans– Lencho had complete faith in God.

Q.2  Why does the postmaster send the money to Lencho? Why does he sign the letter “God”?

Ans. The postmaster sends money to Lencho because he does not want to shake the writer’s faith in God.

He signs the letter “God” because he opined that Lencho would think that only God, none else, has sent him the money.

Q.3 Did Lencho try to find out who had sent the money to him? Why/ Why not?

Ans: Lencho did not try to find out who had sent the money because he had complete faith in God: He, therefore, did not bother about the sender.

Q. 4 Who does Lencho think has taken the rest of the money? What is the irony in the situation?

Ans. Lencho thinks that the Employees of the post office have taken the rest of the money. The irony in the situation is that the employees of the post office contribute money for Lencho. Yet they are seen by him as “crooks”.

Q.5  Are there people like Lencho in the real world? What kind of a person would you say he is? You must select appropriate words to answer the questions. 

Ans. Yes, there are still people like Lencho in the real world. Lencho is naive to the world. He is not greedy. He thinks about his family. He has not been comical. He does not know who has sent him money actually and how a letter will reach God without an address. 

Q.6  There are two kinds of conflict in the story between humans and nature and between humans themselves. How are these conflicts illustrated?

Ans. There is a conflict between humans and nature. Lencho with his sons works hard for a good harvest but the hailstones destroy the corn completely. 

There is a conflict between humans themselves. The postmaster, his employees, and his friends donate to help Lencho. But Lencho thinks them ‘crooks’ and dishonest persons.
